I'm just a simple Black Country lad, originally from Wolverhampton, my first contact with the scene was as an 11 year
old, originally into revival bands such as The Jam, The Chords and Purple Hearts, until I discovered Small Faces and The Action, then deeper into the likes of The Artwoods, Georgie Fame, Graham Bond
and Brian Auger, slowly finding out about their Black American influences, and started collecting 45s when I was about 14/15, combining all the previously mentioned bands.
Fast forward to my late teens and span a few records at various Midland Mod haunts including The Jamaican Club in Gloucester and Sinatras Wine Bar in Birmingham, plus a few local Northern Soul venues, after getting disillusioned with the scene in my 20's I sold all my records and took the NSRA scooter rally route, still dressing as I did, but being more scooter orientated.
Jump forward again to 2000 and a chance meeting and a few friend requests with old friends on MySpace, and took to the internet radio scene, spinning tunes on www.modradiouk.net, which eventually relite my passion for collecting 45s again.
In 2012 I moved up to Northumberland to be with Amanda my other half, another chance meeting with an old friend Chris Spring who had started a local club called Get Smarter, he invited me to play a few sets, and eventually led into me becoming a resident DJ there, sadly when Chris passed away I took over the reigns and the rest is history, it is now categorised as one of the Premier League of Modernist clubs in the UK, which is very flattering.
Being the promoter of GS has had it's advantages as I've had the chance to spin my 45s at such places including afternoon sessions at Dreamsville, Federal, Hideaway and Kitten Casino All Dayer amongst others, plus guest spots at Scarborough New Untouchables Weekend, 3 Keys Mod Weekend, Boom Boom Leeds Weekend, Tailor Made, Chitlin Bus, Somewhere Down The Line, Rythmn A Go Go the list goes on and luckily still get asked, next year I will hosting the North East's very first Modernist Weekend That Riviera Touch in South Shields which completely sold out in 2 and half weeks.
As a regular at Kitten Casino I am honoured to of been asked to play, Patricia & Bruce run a great club, and the music policy is fabulous with an across the board ethos.
Hopefully on the night I will get a few feet on the floor, so will see you all in February.
